Overview

The CM375 is a corrosion-resistant 10 m (30 ft) mast for applications requiring a tall yet portable instrument mount. It can support sensors, an environmental enclosure, a solar panel, and an antenna. Sensors ;are attached to the CM375 mast via mounts such as the CM202, CM204, and CM206 crossarms. To reinforce the mount, the CM375 is guyed at 3.7 m (12 ft) and 7.3 m (24 ft) heights. Duck-bill anchors and the guy-wire tensioning kit ensure proper guying.

Detailed Description

The CM375 comes with five 2 m (6.56 ft) galvanized pipes, a stainless-steel base, guy cables, a 1 m (3.3 ft) crossarm, and a mounting bracket. An anchor kit is required; standard and heavy-duty anchor kits are offered as Common Accessories (see Ordering Info). A guy tensioning kit is also available as a Common Accessory.

A 2 m (80 in) bag is included with the CM375; all of the CM375's components fit inside the bag, allowing the CM375 to be carried from site to site.

The wind gust value assumes: (1) proper installation; (2) adequate soil for guy anchors/base support; (3) guy anchors at 6.1 m [20 ft] from base with 120° of separation; (4) guy tension of 45.4 kg [100 lb] each; (5) no ice buildup; and (6) standard air quality or wind assessment configuration [see table in manual]. The amount of wind gust that this mount can withstand is affected by quality of anchoring and installation, guy wire tension, soil type, guy angle, and the number, type, and location of instruments fastened to the CM375.

Compatibility

Guy Duckbill Anchor Kits

Two duckbill anchor kits are offered as common accessories. (See the Ordering information.) The 19282 Guy Duckbill Standard Anchor Kit is adequate for most loamy soils. Clay soils and other soils with higher corrosive properties will require the 25699 Guy Duckbill Heavy Duty Anchor Kit. These corrosive soils, also known as aggressive soils, have one or more of the following properties:

  • High electrical conductivity (>0.33 dS m-1)
  • High acidity (pH < 5)
  • High chloride concentration (> 1000 ppm)
  • High sulfate concentration (> 500 ppm)
  • Poor aeration

  1. The actual load on the mast can be approximately 34 kg (75 lb). If there is a lot of ice on the guy cables, they would need to be re-tightened more frequently. Campbell Scientific recommends checking the guy cables at least twice during an ice season. The guy cables should be positioned a little more vertically so that the ice doesn't pull them down so hard.

  2. While there are no guarantees, as environmental conditions are unique from location to location, we expect that the mast of the CM375 would endure for 20 to 25 years in most coastal regions. In non-corrosive environments, we estimate the mast would endure for 50+ years. Having said that, because most of the parts are galvanized steel or stainless steel, they will corrode over time and eventually need to be replaced.

  3. The CM375 can endure extreme temperatures, such as almost 400°F on the high end.

  4. A stake kit, such as pn 16773, could be used to stake the base plate down. For very rocky areas, consider using concrete anchors.

  5. Consider using climbing anchors, such as those sold by sporting goods stores.
