CR6 will not connect with Connect software

My CR6 will let me configure using the Device Config Utility, however I cannot connect using the Connect software. I receive a variety of connection timeout errors.  It is direct connected via a USB and I have validated that COM ports are correct.  I verifified the baud rate in the Device Manager and the Setup utility match at 9600

A common error code is:  "serial open failed","serial open failed","5","Access is denied."

Access denied for a serial port means either:

   The comport number chosen does not exist.

       or

   Another piece of software already has that comport open.

Be sure you close Device Configuration Utility before trying to connect with the Connect screen.
