Overview

The SP20R-PW is a specially cabled 20 W solar panel. It is often used for system configurations that have higher-than-average power requirements, or in higher elevation and latitude locations. The SP20R-PW is very similar to the SP20-PW except that it contains an on-board voltage regulator, allowing the panel to supply power directly to a user-supplied battery mounted inside a Campbell Scientific prewired enclosure (PWENC).

Benefits and Features

  • Supplies electrical power in locations where ac power is unreliable, expensive, or not available
  • On-board voltage regulator allows direct connection to a user-supplied external battery
  • Quick, secure connection to Campbell prewired enclosures for more efficient setup

Detailed Description

The 6.1 m (20 ft) cable on the SP20R-PW terminates in a connector that can connect to a PWENC. The connector in the enclosure then leads to a power supply or battery base to recharge the battery and allow unattended operation of systems in remote locations, far from AC electrical sources.

Please note that the SP20R-PW has a 2-mA continuous current drain (meaning that it consumes a small amount of power from the connected battery at night).

Included mounting hardware consists of two part no. 17492 U-bolt and matching nuts. The U-bolt has a 5.398 cm (2.125 in.) space between the U-bolt legs. This hardware allows the solar panel to be mounted to a 0.75-1.5 in. IPS pipe [25.4-50.8 cm (1-2 in.) OD].

Specifications

  • Maximum Peak Power: 20 W
  • Guaranteed Minimum Peak Power: 18 W
  • Current at Peak: 1.19 A
  • Voltage at Peak: 16.8 V
  • Current Drain: 2 mA continuous
  • Cable Length: 6.1 m (20 ft)

Note: Solar panel characteristics assume 1 kW m-2 illumination and 25°C solar panel temperature. Individual panels may vary up to 10%. The output panel voltage increases as the panel temperature decreases.

Compatibility

Battery

The SP20R-PW is compatible with user-supplied, 12 V flooded batteries such as deep cycle marine or RV batteries. It is not compatible with 12 V gel cell or AGM lead acid batteries such as the batteries contained in the BP12 or BP24 battery packs.
