In Zambia, accurate weather data is about forecasting, but it's also about safety, resilience, and connection. The Director of the Zambia Meteorological Department, Mr. Edson Nkonde, shares how monitoring weather conditions across major water bodies like Lake Kariba, Lake Mweru, and Lake Bangweulu helps protect the many communities and transport routes that depend on them. With the installation of over 180 automatic weather stations, Zambia is strengthening its national observation network, contributing valuable data to the Global Basic Observing Network (GBON) and supporting better regional and global forecasting.
